"A New Aotearoa" was inspired by the 2021 Blood Supermoon and the messages it represented to me.

Lunar eclipses signal the start of a NEW CYCLE in life and the totality for this one started at 11:11 - a number which in spiritual circles, appears when we are on the RIGHT PATH. It then ended at 11:25 which equals 9 in numerology. 9 is one of the most sacred universal numbers, meaning enlightenment, awakening and the END OF A CYCLE.

The last Blood Supermoon over Aotearoa was 40 years ago - a time when Māori culture was being reintroduced to society. It was a massive leap forward for Tangata Whenua after decades of suppression of Māori culture. Now 40 years later another Blood Supermoon appears over our skies just as we are taking another big leap forward. Another cycle.

On the night of the Blood Supermoon my nose started bleeding. My first adult nose bleed. I passed a mirror and turned to look at it. At that exact moment blood dripped down onto my Pounamu, running the length of it. I saw that this was a representation of all the blood, sweat and tears that Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti have put into getting us to this point. The blood is our mahi and he tangata. The Ponaumu - our culture and whenua.

For me this Blood Supermoon was a symbolic representation and reminder that we are entering A New Aotearoa, a united and equal country.
