Hine-ahu-one, the first wahine, slowly emerges from the clay that formed her. Her conscious mind awakens as the breath of life fills her with mauri.

Nestled down she awaits the final gifts of ngā Atua that will allow her to surface fully.

Created when I myself was emerging from a phase in my life that was shallow. Shallow thoughts. Shallow graves. Shallow surface life. As I made my way further and further INTO te Ao Māori the further and further OUT of that world I came. Like Hine-ahu-one, slowly collecting that which would enable to me to live free.
