I designed and drew every single kari with equal respect and aroha but something about these few and their wairua, aesthetic and energy is just chefs kiss 🤌🤌

So In love with how this commission turned out and getting to see and own the final end product. Chiante has delivered these art pieces in a beautiful high quality and CONNECTED Oracle Deck where each image completely embodies her soul serving kōrero.

Someone once said - "an artist will immortalize you, but its you who decides whether thats on a pedestal or under it."

It was me. I said it. Is it my best saying? KĀO. But I just made it up this second.

Its true though. The widely inherent trait among artists of all ilk is that alot of the time our art generally reflects our lives, thoughts, desires. Our souls really.

Musicians write songs
Poets write poetry
Painters paint
Dancers dance

Its personal. But its OUR personal.

And anyway sometimes you just gotta put the mustard in the microwave and let these people know you're not the one.... because dinosaurs don't bark when you text the home phone.

At the end of the day you still gotta walk your goldfish.

To Te Kore.

Just some self induced peer pressure 😂

1. The hyped up MJ portrait from when I announced I was doing nothing but drawing MJ after I saw the movie so I can move out of my paralysis. Which I did, a quarter of the way through what was supposed to be the main chatecter drawing lol.

2. My long suffering but absolutely resilient wahine painting. Everytime I think ive cracked it on how to finish her I immediately reject it. One day. I DID MY WAITING!! SIX YEARS!! IN AZKABAN!!

3. This idea that I had to draw immediately then stopped as soon as enough of it was down that I wouldnt forget. Its a seed. Its just doing its incubation period.

4. A series im currently working on to better understand my partners Chronic Fatigue. Absolute hats off to anyone dealing with CF and the like. Strength is an understatement.

5. In an odd twist. I did digital prints first of Te Metamorphosis of Hine and THEN decided to paint a one off original. Heoi ano I decided that I completely wanted to change the pattern side so the painting was truly one off. So yeah... just add that workload lol.

Anyway ill come back in a year and see who is still waiting 😂

Im far from opposed to turning to Te Taiao for support when times are hard and after a rough morning during my ikura times were hard. One green + lotus petal spliff later I was given a vision about myself. It was myself being cradled by the moon and its wairua. Below me were my own hands holding us up and underneth that were eyes that peered out from the swirling depths of Te Kore.

Instantly I knew it to be presenting as a tarot card. A tohu on its own of the future. The hands were the two towers, the eyes were the wolf and the dog and the swirls of Te Kore that surrounded them were the water and crayfish.

It spoke to me of tuning into my subconscious mind and facing the past fears that keep me from moving forward. It asks me to trust in myself and the universe and to listen to the cycles of my body reflected in the cycles of the moon. Understand who I am. Embrace all parts of me. I am my own leader and guide. I have all that I need to make a path forward.
